I use to keep this picture I tore from a magazine. It was of a bedroom, yes there was a bed, but the walls that surrounded the bed were built-in shelving and covered with books...I may even still have it.

I just loved the idea of being surrounded by books. I thought that that would be so cool. I still have that same love for reading all these years later. Little known fact... I have a degree in literature.

I have always had this fire in my soul to be creative. I am not sure if it came from my mother's genes or my father's, but the desire has always been there.

My affinity for collecting African American Fine Art started many years ago. My girlfriend gifted me a signed print titled And Then Some by the artist Bryan Collier. She herself had begin to amass a collection of her own. In her collection she had a beautiful piece by the artist Twin called Tre Señor.

These two pieces have forever inspired me to collect African American Fine Art.

I do not claim to have a tremendous plethora of knowledge about fine art, but I know what I like. Quit like my perspective on fashion - I wear what I like - and its just that simple. Over the years and even still now I am being introduced to old and new artist, to different mediums, and styles of art.

Art like fashion is a way to express ones self. Since, I was not blessed with the gift of painting, drawing, or sculpting, I collect. I have come to realize that my artistic gift, although I would love it to be the latter, is my ability to pull together a look and a good DIY project (smile) more on that later.

One of the many artist I was introduced to in the last few years was Michael Gibson. He creates these truly unbelievable graphite pieces. When I tell you to see them in person is a must your brain and eyes will not be able to reconcile the fact that they were created by hand and the realistic beauty in these pieces.

While the art world can be a bit intimidating, kind of like fashion. I urge you to explore the world of African American Fine Art. Trust me there is something for everyone.

I do not doubt that you will find something, a painting, a sculpture, a fiber art piece, that will spark joy in your soul.
